Thanksgiving Trivia

  1. The pilgrims sailed from England on the Mayflower on Sept. 6, 1620.
  2. The Wampanoag indians taught the Pilgrims how to grow native crops and store them for winter.
  3. In 1621, the Pilgrims shared their harvest feast with the Wampanoag Indians.
  4. The first Thanksgiving feast lasted 3 days.
  5. The first NFL game was played on Thanksgiving Day 1920. 
  6. The cornucopia is also known as the "horn of plenty". It has origins in Greek mythology.
  7. Abraham Lincoln made Thanksgiving a national holiday in 1863 assigning it to the last Thursday in November.
  8. Later it was moved to the 4th Thursday in November by President Franklin Roosevelt, to help the economy by extending the Christmas shopping season.
